Alan Bean "Measure of a Man"

At Pete Conrad's funeral at Arlington Cemetary in 1999, Alan Bean's eulogy was a tear-jerker. He said Pete was "the finest man he ever knew." We had done this reworking of the familiar Conrad-shot photo as a gag for Alan's birthday card a few years before, and resurrected it to have him sign the phrase "taking the measure of a great man" as a tribute to his fallen pal. Pete is sharply reflected in Alan's visor. Artists often use the handle of their paintbrush to measure proportions of their subject. 8x10 Sepia-toned.
