NOTE: DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO NOVEMBER 7, 2018.
We are very excited to have STS-2/STS-51I/ALT commander and X-15 pilot Joe Engle coming to ASTRONAUT CENTRAL in Tucson! He will sign your mailed-in items privately at our office in mid-November. Deadline for receiving all orders and items at Novaspace has been extended to Wednesday, November 7, 2018.
Major General Joe Engle, USAF/ANG Ret., has flown over 185 aircraft types, including 38 fighter and attack types, logging over 14,700 hours, including 224 hours in space. He flew sixteen flights in the experimental X-15 rocket plane, reaching 3,887 mph (Mach 5.71) and 280,600 feet (53.1 miles), becoming the youngest pilot to qualify for the USAF astronaut rating. He was the Apollo 14 backup Lunar Module Pilot, and was scheduled to be the Apollo 17 LMP until NASA decided to fly geologist-astronaut Harrison Schmitt instead. He flew Space Shuttle Approach and Landing Tests (ALT), and was backup Commander for STS-1, the first orbital test flight. As STS-2 commander on the second orbital test flight, he became the only pilot to manually fly a vehicle from Mach 25 to landing. He later commanded STS-51I, deploying three satellites and repairing another.
