The Hatchling

"The Hatchling" is the name Mike Collins gave to this huge photo of the Apollo 11 hatch, redesigned after the Apollo 1 fire. Part of the reason for the loss of the crew involved the cumbersome, inward-opening hatch. This one opens outward, and despite it's apparent complexity, opens quickly. Frank Borman helped with the redesign. Removed before the capsule was put on display, Mike commissioned a large-format photo of it while he was director of the National Air & Space Museum. Mike wanted it reproduced FULL SIZE, so here it is as a laminated giclee, with 4-8" of black on either side--plenty of room to collect Apollo autographs. 30"x45". It can be transported in its stout shipping tube. Lamination avoids fingerprints, dents, and is a superb writing surface.
